Uganda Development Bank (UDB) has appointed Peter Mukuru as its new Director of Business Technology, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to digital transformation and innovation.
Mukuru joins Uganda’s national Development Finance Institution with more than two decades of executive leadership experience across development finance, regulatory bodies, government agencies, utilities, and the private sector. He is widely recognized for driving technology-enabled transformation and strengthening institutional performance through strategic digital initiatives.
Before his appointment at UDB, Mukuru served as IT Project Manager at the African Development Bank (AfDB), where he spearheaded large-scale digital transformation programs across multiple countries. His portfolio included modernization of financial systems, enhancement of digital workplace platforms, enterprise service management reforms, and the deployment of emerging technologies aimed at improving efficiency, resilience, and service delivery.
Over the course of his career, he has held senior leadership positions at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), and TraceCorp Solutions. In these roles, he led enterprise-wide programs in ERP modernization, data and analytics, cybersecurity, digital payments, and business continuity management.

In addition to his executive track record, Mukuru brings significant board-level and corporate governance experience, having served as a Non-Executive Director within FinTech, healthcare services, and professional governance institutions. His expertise spans digital governance, risk management, enterprise architecture, and cybersecurity, with a consistent emphasis on aligning technology strategy to long-term institutional sustainability.
Outside the corporate sphere, Mukuru is actively involved in community leadership through Rotary International, where he has undertaken various District and Club leadership roles in Uganda.
He holds an MBA, a Master of Information Technology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Statistics. He is also certified in Information Security (CISM), Risk Management (CRISC), Project Management (PMP), Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF), and IT Service Management (ITIL v4), alongside advanced training in AI strategy and governance, digital economy frameworks, digital payments, and innovation management.
