The Transition

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has officially launched its 40th Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) at Soroti University (SUN-TISC), marking another milestone in expanding access to innovation support and advancing artificial intelligence and student-led initiatives across Uganda.

The launch event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Makerere University Innovation and Incubation Centre and the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening the country’s innovation ecosystem.

A major highlight of the event was the exhibition of student-led projects leveraging artificial intelligence to solve real-world challenges.

Among the standout innovations was an AI-powered Ugandan Court Speech Transcription System, designed to generate real-time, searchable court records while reducing reliance on manual processes.

Also showcased was a Hybrid AI Timetable Generator that enhances scheduling efficiency and optimizes resource allocation, as well as a mobile commerce platform integrating e-payments with product traceability through QR codes.
