dfcu Bank is supporting the vision of Alfred Ojok, a farmer from Nwoya District, who is using coffee farming to drive transformation and create opportunities across Northern Uganda.

Uganda is targeting economic growth from about $50 billion to $500 billion by 2040 under the National Development Plan IV, with agro-industrialisation identified as a key driver. Within this agenda, agriculture presents one of the fastest pathways to growth through improved productivity, value addition, and investment.

dfcu is contributing to this effort through partnerships such as the Best Farmers Awards, organised by Vision Group alongside the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and Koudijs Animal Nutrition. Since 2014, the initiative has recognised more than 130 farmers for excellence in agribusiness, sustainability, and innovation. Winners of the 2025 edition are set to travel to the Netherlands for a study tour.

Ojok, 34, is among this year’s winners. He owns Hasting Coffee Center and chairs the Nwoya Lalr Coffee and Poultry Cooperative Society. Starting with limited resources, his early attempt at garlic farming failed due to harsh climatic conditions. He later shifted to coffee, building his expertise over time.
